Last winter I had a chance to review a pair of Muck Boots Arctic Sport boots, supposedly waterproof boots that claimed to be the best at providing comfort and warmth in the coldest temperatures. How convenient that I happen to live in a frigid part of the US during the winter season, northern New York State, where the temperature is normally around the zero degree mark. And as further luck would have it, we were having one of our coldest winters on record.
My first impression of the boots was the thickness of the rubber used, much more than any store bought waterproof rubber boots. The nylon type top part of the boot was very silky feeling, and supposedly wraps around your calf for a snug fit. Nothing’s worse than stepping in snow that’s deeper than you thought and having snow fall into the top of your boot and onto your feet. Not a great feeling.
Looking inside the boot, there was this lining that actually comes out, looks like a big fleece sock and is very comfortable on its own, without the boot. It’s basically a very advanced, very thick, no very, very thick sock. I slipped my feet into the boots just wearing the socks I had on, stood up and noticed they had nice support and a very comfortable feel to them. Walking around was a breeze, the boots are much lighter than they appear, giving your legs a bit of a break when walking through two feet of snow.
Now comes the real test, how warm and dry will they actually keep my feet? The day these were delivered it happened to be around zero out, and a good test. Once I got outside I walked on shoveled sidewalk for three or four blocks, and then onto snow covered ground for quite a ways. What really got cold were my face and my hands, to the point where I had to get inside.
Taking my winter gear off and sitting by the fire, my feet had no familiar burning that I’ve experienced before when you bring your body parts to the brink of frostbite. Since that day, every time I’ve gone outside, I put these boots on. Mostly I wear them for the comfort, which I find outstanding. If you need a solid, comfortable waterproof boot, that will keep you feet nice and warm no matter what you are doing outside, I would suggest you check these Arctic Sport Muck boots out, your feet will love you for it.
