What to Do to Book a Celebrity

by tkwriter on September 2, 2010

If you decide to book a celebrity for an event, you will almost certainly have a lot on your plate in terms of organising the event. The first thing that you need to establish is whether you actually need to book a celebrity. Hiring a celebrity who has nothing to offer your event will be an expensive waste of time.

Of course, the advice in this article isn’t meant to put fear into you regarding hiring a celebrity, it is just meant to encourage you to be absolutely certain you want and need a famous guest before you commit to paying for one.

Once you are sure you need and want a famous guest, it is time to start considering cost. Set up a budget and stick to it religiously, otherwise you could jeopardise other preparations for the event such as the catering.

Now, think about the type of celebrity you’d like to have at the event. Choose from the available DJs, TV presenters, actors or sports people, making your choices appropriate for your event. Make up a shortlist of the people you are considering and make contact with an agent to begin the process.

The agency will be able to tell you who is and isn’t available and discuss their fees and expenses with you. Although it can be expensive to book a celebrity, you may be able to negotiate some reduction on the price, although this is by now way guaranteed. Once you and the agency are in agreement on prices and times and all the other practicalities you sign a contract, make payment and can move on to the stress-free planning of the rest of your event.

Remember that the most popular time of year to book a celebrity is around Christmas time when end of year parties are in full swing. Avoid disappointing yourself and your guests by booking months ahead of time where possible.
