What do I Do to Book a Celebrity?

by tkwriter on September 1, 2010

If you decide to book a celebrity for an event, you will almost certainly have a lot on your plate in terms of organising the event. But before you get involved in phone calls and organisation, take the time to decide whether you are certain that you need one. Fees and expenses can be highly costly and unless you are certain that the special guest will vastly improve the event then it could be wasted money.

Don’t be turned off the idea entirely, it is true that a well chosen celebrity could give your event a real boost, it is simply a case of being absolutely certain that you require one.

Once you are absolutely certain about hiring a celebrity, start thinking about money. If you don’t manage to stay within your budget other area of your event may suffer, such as catering or music.

Decide the sort of celebrity you’d like to hire. Depending on the type of event choose from actors, DJs or entrepreneurs. Make up a shortlist of the people you are considering and make contact with an agent to begin the process.

Armed with your shortlist, an agency will tell you who is and isn’t available and at what price. Although it can be expensive to book a celebrity, you may be able to negotiate some reduction on the price, although this is by now way guaranteed. Once you’ve come to an agreement you and the speakers’ bureau will enter into a contract and you can start to concentrate on organising the other bits of your event.

It is important to remember that Christmas time is the peak time of year for parties and more people book a celebrity around Christmas and new year than any other time. Always book early to avoid disappointment for you and your guests.
