How To Stay Sane When The Weather Is Bad

by tkwriter on April 11, 2010

It’s December, it’s snowing outside, and it doesn’t seem like there’s anything to do. Some people imagine winter doesn’t exist, choosing tanning lotions and the indoors to keep the made up dream alive. However, tanning lotion can only go so far and eventually you have to admit that it’s cold and uninteresting and there’s nothing to do. It does seem like the winter brings about a bought of depression and perpetual boredom. Fortunately, there are plenty of things that you can do, even when the weather isn’t cooperating.

One idea, especially when the weather is cold, is to go to a ski park. There are plenty of places around the country where you can ski all year around but during the winter months it’s even more exciting. Skiing is a fantastic sport and a lot of people can learn how to do it if they’re willing to practice. Even if you don’t think you’re very graceful you can get a teacher to help you. Likewise, if you don’t like skiing, there are plenty of other things to do at a ski resort. You could snowboard or go tubing or just stay indoors and watch other people. The ski park is an awesome place to hang out with friends, especially when it’s cold out.

Another idea, even when the weather is crappy, is to go to an arcade. Sacrificing a bit to get out into the terrible weather will be totally worth it when you make it to the arcade. There are games for every age and recreation for everyone. It’s great for families to spend time in conjunction and even better if you want to get together with some buddies. Plus, the arcade can be a frugal experience for those on a budget. Also, if it’s the right time of day, you can get a pretty good dinner at the arcade. Sitting around with friends and family and having dinner is a fantastic way to have a fun time.

Lastly, the easiest and probably cheapest way to have a great time in terrible weather is to just stay indoors with some friends. However, that doesn’t condone sitting around and mope. Instead, invite your buddies over and have a movie night. Starting a fire and some hot cocoa to pass around is a super idea too. If you can’t drive, walk. It rescues the environment and it keeps you from staying confined by yourself. You can make fun games to play with your friends or have a baking party. Even if you don’t have a lot of stock yourself, ask your friends to bring supplies over.

Obviously, the warmer months are much easier to plan for and there are plenty of ideas to do when the weather is warm. However, your life doesn’t have to shut down when winter starts. Instead, embrace the change of pace and create new and exciting ideas to impress your friends and family. By taking charge of the situation, you can have a fantastic time despite the weather.
